about me the maker
My name is Katie and I’m a maker based in South East England in Kent. I’m a maker through and through and enjoy working with many different materials but pottery and working with clay scratches an itch like no other material does. I first started working with clay 10+ years ago at art school and I have been enjoying working and experimenting with it since. I see the process of making something that can become engrained in someone’s everyday life and rituals as a real privilege and honour.
I love being outside, particularly wherever there is water to dip in and food to be shared - my ideal day would be a paddle board picnic, or a beach swim and games followed by a BBQ at sunset. I don’t believe in the notion of “saving for best” and love using all my special pots and plates for every occasion, especially if it’s alfresco!
I feel that plating up food on and in lots of different vessels encourages sharing and interaction and breaks those formal boundaries of being “a host”. I hope that my pieces inspire exactly that kind of hosting; encourage people to live and dine free-range and build stronger bonds with each other by really enjoying those little moments together.
